Bits and bobs

A few smaller jobs that have been completed in the here and there over the past month or two.

Bow eye
#

I’m not actually going to install this yet, since I think I’m going to fibreglass the front of the boat, which will be easier to do without the boweye installed. That said, I did want to install the backing plate and drill/fill/drill a hole for the bolt.

Drill guide definitely comes in handy
Drill bit is juuuust long enough

I don’t have pictures of the process but you can see in the second picture above the small backing plate I epoxied in. Made of the same oak as the bungy hold downs, it’s probably not strictly necessary (a washer would have been fine) but I went for it anyway.

I have a stainless steel bow eye that I picked up from Admiral ship supply for the bow eye. I actually placed an order for a bronze one with PT foundry, but even though I went in person and placed it, they lost my order/never got back to me, so oh well. Based on this occurence I’ll outfit the scamp with stainless steel hardware instead of bronze. The foundry just lost a little business, they probably don’t care.

Storage carabiners
#

An idea from the forums that I liked was to add some holes in strategic places before the cabin top gets glued on that will allow you to hang items in the front cubby so they don’t move around as much as the boat moves (or capsizes). I liked this idea, so a few holes were drilled and then coated a few times in epoxy.

Four along the cabintop carlins between B2 and B3
A couple drilled into B2

I also put one into the stem up near where the boweye comes through, although I guess I didn’t take a picture of that.

I had to order the carabiners first to make sure the holes I drilled were big enough for them 😉

Painting lazarette and forward cubby
#

Finally as it was getting closer to time to put the deck down, the forward cubby needed to be primed and painted, and I did the lazarette at the same time (as well as the bottoms only of the hatch covers, though I don’t have any photos of that).

Epoxy PrimeKote on the lazarette...
...and on the forward cubby

I eventually wound up painting both of these with two coats of the grey bilgekote as well, though I guess no pictures of that.
